Lauing Ranch is pleased to announce that they have been approved as a
Ranching Heritage Breeder by the AQHA Ranching Council. Lauing Ranch
foals can be nominated for the Ranching Heritage Challenge. Ranching
Heritage Challenge
will be for foals exclusively bred and nominated by
Ranching Heritage Breeders such as Lauing Ranch. By 2013, AQHA will
host events at stock shows, state fairs, ranch rodeos, PRCA Rodeos for
Open 4-year-old horses and Non-pro sweepstakes for 5-year and older
horses. Lauing Ranch would encourage new and repeat buyers to nominate
their Lauing Ranch foals into this new program. In an effort to highlight American Quarter Horse ranch breeders and their heritage, the AQHA Ranching Council created the Ranching Heritage Breeders Program. The historic Lauing Ranch in South Dakota, is proud to be an approved
breeder in the new program.

Welcome to the Lauing Ranch web site. Our horses and their pedigrees carry significant percentages of the blood of many legendary sires. Our goal is to produce top quality performance, using-type Quarter Horses for the ranch and the arena. We specialize in horses with good conformation with an emphasis on good feet, legs, athletic ability, good dispositions, and trainability. Our family began ranching in Central South Dakota in the early 1900s and as the third and fourth generations ranching here, it has taken years for us to build our program to the place where it stand today. Foals from our ranch go on to other breeding programs, to the arena for team roping, calf roping, team roping, team penning, barrel racing, cutting, and to be used as working ranch horses. These horses are mounting competitors from 4-H and Little Britches, High School and college, to the PRCA all across the country. They are cowy horses that are smooth moving across the pa sture and quick on their feet in the arena. Horses raised here will do well anywhere.

To produce these kinds of horses takes some pretty special mares. Our broodmares consist of a high percentage of roans with a gray and a buckskin here and there. the mares will typically stand 15 hands and 1100-1300 pounds, all of it on good feet and bone.

We fully believe in the ability, disposition, and the usefulness of the breeding program we have put together over the past several years. We try to raise stout horses with good bone that can handle a full day's work, cover a lot of miles and be able to pull from the horn. The best way to find out what Lauing Ranch has to offer is to see the horse for yourself. Visitors are always welcome. We would love to show you our horses.
